Wall Colour
Paint two walls in the room a light green colour and the other two warm cream. Paint all the woodwork in the room light cream as well as the doorframe.
Desk
Cut a worktop from MDF in a curved design. Use 2x1 battening to attach the top to the wall. Place a curved monitor stand on to the top of the desk. This will utilise the small area of space to work on.
Shelving unit
Build a frame from 2x1 timber battening. Use 18mm MDF for the shelves. Fix firmly to the wall. This can now be used for extra storage space. Accessorise with fill boxes.
Neon mesh light boxes
Make a small box from 18mm MDF. Fit a strip light inside the box and place plastic blue neon sleeves over the neon tubing. Cover the box with aluminium mesh.
Laminate wood artwork
Cut a piece of 18mm MDF to make a canvas. Then, using laminate floor off cuts, apply various spray paints to each strip. Attach to the MDF canvas and hang on the wall.
Seating plinth and storage
Build a rectangular box from 18mm MDF. Fit the box underneath the fitted shelving unit and place two doors constructed from MDF on the front of the box. Cover large foam blocks with deep green fabric and place on top.
Window dressing
Hang floor length light green cotton curtains in your window. Use a natural wood blind to allow shafts of light into the room.
Accessories
Accessorise your design with cream and green cushions on the seating area. Place small green leafy houseplants around the room. To create the illusion of space and increase light in the room place a square mirror on the opposite wall to the window.

Enchanted forest
Make an enchanted forest in your room. Firmly attach tree trunks and branches to one wall, to create the effect of a forest in the room. Drape the branches with fairy lights for an enchanted feel.
Gold dresser
Make a dresser for above the fireplace out of 18mm MDF. Spray paint it antique gold and age it using antique wax. Paste Fra Angelico images onto the dresser and blend in with the wax. Complete with flush hinges and wooden doorknobs.
Lighting
Position a chandelier in the centre of the ceiling to enhance the enchanted feel of the room.
Window decoration
Decorate the window with muslin. Transfer images of butterflies onto the fabric to enhance the enchanted forest theme.
Table
Construct a table and benches from scaffold planks. These should be sanded down and waxed. Dress the table with plates decorated with leaves. Use green paint and a stencil. Decorative gourds add to the theme.
Radiator cover

Walls with zig zag border
Paint the walls in warm shades or red and cream. Create a border using a zigzag template. Pencil the design onto the wall, and then paint in contrasting colours.
Luxurious bed
Drape rich and luxurious fabrics across the bed. To make cheap bed covers and curtains, recycle old fabrics such as old velvet curtains. Sew the fabric together and attach beads to the ends.
Window dressing
To enhance the feeling of romance in the room, use soft red muslin fabric to make curtains. If you like a dark room install a white or red blind to help block out the daylight.
Unusual wardrobes
Turn the wardrobe into a feature. Give it a simple pointed roof rather than a normal horizontal one. Decorate it to match the room.

2009-2010 Sample home design style - Romantic Bathroom
03 July 2009
Abolish those images of tidemarks and soggy towels strewn across the floor, bathrooms are self-indulgent and peaceful pampering places.

Classical bath panels 2009-2010 Sample home design style - Romantic Bathroom
Wall effect
Create a stone effect on the walls using paint. Mask off squares and paint the centre with a marbled affect. Peal away the tape and soften the edges of the joins.
The floor
Strip the floorboards and satin or paint the floorboards a deep rich brown. This will contrast nicely with the light colours in the rest of the room.
Shelving
Add a contemporary feel to modern shelving by adding a beaded edge. Cover with beautiful objects such as pebbles, picture frames and books.
The bath
Update the bath by simply adding classic bath panels to the side of the unit. Choose classic luxurious bath products to emphasise the look.
Fabric
Opt for whites, creams and beiges when choosing bath mats and towels. At the window drape long luxurious cream curtains.
Furniture
If you have the space, position other furniture in the room to give it a more homely feel. Any wood used in the bathroom should have the mahogany-look.
Finishing touches
Dress the room with beautiful objects, candles and bright green trailing plants such as ivy.

Utilise all available space
Streamline the space in your kitchen by lining up the units along one wall. Make sure that the cooker, sink and fridge are easily accessible. Are you utilising all your space to its full purpose.
Hand-paint the doors of your units.
Start by priming the doors with a malamine or laminate primer. Using either artists oil paints or acrylics, paint the design of your choice. Coat the finished doors with several layers of varnish to make the image durable.
Bring the window architecture into the design
Add curved arches to the top of your windows to enhance the romantic feel of the room. If you have radiators under your windows, why not convert them into attractive window seats.
Let as much light into the room as possible
Light is important in any room of the house, especially the kitchen. Open up the area in your room and where possible enlarge the windows. This will let the light in and enable you to enjoy views of the outside world.
Fresco your walls with romantic images.
Photocopy your images onto lazertran paper. Soak in water for a few minutes, until the image becomes a transfer. Then carefully place the transfer onto the walls. Colour wash with watered down emulsion for a faded fresco feel.
Bring the ceiling into the design
To give a room a coherent feel, make sure the ceiling is consistent and blends in with the rest of the room. A wooden tongue and groove ceiling works well and once painted cream, fuses the design together.
Use romantic accessories to enhance the design
To complete the romantic look, position a delicate chandelier in the centre of the room. A light feminine chandelier with a leafy design works especially well in this romantic room. Use soft fabrics and tapestries to give the room a rich opulent feel.

2009-2010 Sample home design style-Laundry Rooms-Soap's Up at the Laundry

- Plenty of drawers and shelving for everything you need to scrub up with ease.
- A laundry tub with a sassy outlook
- Walls echo the dark, natural green of grasses and palm fronds.
2009-2010 Photos sample home design style-Laundry Rooms-Soap's Up at the Laundry
It's one of the chores we love to hate. But having an efficient, beautiful workspace can make even doing laundry a more pleasant activity.
There's a casual elegance to this carefully planned laundry room. Richly stained, natural wood cabinetry provides plenty of drawers and shelving to tuck away everything you need for scrubbing up with ease. Checkered floor tiling, wicker storage baskets, and a stylized pears-and-apricots painting add a nostalgic counterpoint to the contemporary, front-load appliances. No skimping on soaking space either – this country-style sink with its wide front apron and wall-mount facets could double as a bathtub for Rover.
At last, a laundry tub with a sassy outlook and an outside view. Extending the patterned backsplash around the window transforms what could be simply another sink into a visual feature. Two paintings of sunny lands give a warmth and balance the display of aquamarine soap to the left. Millwork is light to maintain an airy, open feeling.
Rich and luxurious with a distinctly contemporary elegance, this laundry has a soothing, tranquil ambiance. Walls echo the dark, natural green of grasses and vases filled with palm fronds. Cabinetry is smooth with no pulls or knobs to detract from its functional simplicity. An undermounted sink combines good looks with easy clean up.

- An arched door frames the porthole window inside.
- A country-style apron sink is perfect for many clean up tasks.
- Front load washer/dryer team conserve both energy and water.
2009-2010 Photos sample home design style-Laundry Rooms-Sparkling Clean
Think efficient and fun when you step into this laundry room. Framed by an arched doorway, the oversized porthole window with cross-hatching is topped with a reminder of the much loved, homespun truth that a stitch in time saves nine. And just in case you need more proof, settle yourself down at the fully restored treadle sewing machine and whip up a few hems and pleats.
No doubt occasionally serving double duty as a bath for the family's four-footed members, this laundry's country-style apron sink sports wall mount faucets plus lots of surrounding work surface for sorting, folding, or de-mudding everything from galoshes to flower pots - perfect for a multi tasking master.
But despite its rural, country charm, when it comes right down to it, this laundry is all about contemporary efficiency. A sleek front load washer/dryer team conserve both energy and water. Cleaning supplies tuck neatly out of sight in banks of cabinetry, and the flooring is a hardworking, durable tile that combines easy care with good looks. Getting clean was never more enjoyable.
